How can an infinite universe have grown from a finite seed?

This is a very dificult and complex point to explain, and I am not entirely certain I understand all of the things that go into a sensible answer. In 'standard' inflationary big bang cosmology, there MAY have been some initial state of energy or field or spacetime. This state contained perhaps a continuum of fluctuating field energy which led to spacetime curvature. These may in fact have ben the same things just as general relativity says that gravity and spacetime are identical things, just diferent names for the same thing. This primordial state had fluctuatios going on at every scale, but only those within roughly the planck scale of distances were 'coherant' in the sense that light could travel across the domain in a time equal to the planck time. By the time Inflation kicked-in, this region was 10^-26 centimeters across, but there were in principle an infinite number of other patches in the larger spacetime that evolved differently, but they were completely out of contact with the properties of their neighbors, or with what was going on inside our patch. After inflation ended, this patch had grown 10^26 times in size, and at that point the age of our patch was 10^-33 seconds old. By today, this patch may have grown to 10^600 light years across or more depending on just how long the inflation era lasted. BUT, and this is the important point ,the priomordial spacetime still exists 'out there' doing its own thing. Some of the patches its fabric spawned may have collapsed long ago as 'finite universes', others like ours seem in every practical sense, infinite from inside. In actuality, they are just VERY VERY large. Is 10^600 lightyears infinite? Not in the mathematical sense, but so far as the destiny of our universe is concerned, it is practically infinite. Eventually our expanding patch will merge with all the other patches that may have been spawned by the promordial state in the nearly infinite future. This will make for some very strange physics in the far future, because there is no guarantee that these other patches share our physical laws in every detail!!
